Default frequent unnecessary duplications causing instability

Since alt+lmb is tumble in maya (the most common thing to do) and is ‘duplicate selected’ in groboto, I constantly duplicate arbitrary selections, then either ‘undo’ or delete the result of the duplication - this often causes groboto to crash.
It would be nice to have an override for that operation, and even nicer would be a mode that made dolly, tumble and track work the way it does in maya.

    thanks

I run into that a lot. Yesterday I was working on a model and accidentally duplicated several objects without realizing it, no crash, but Groboto refused to trim and mesh one object until I deleted the extra objects. Modo uses the Alt -LMB as rotate so I often get a dup while working in Groboto.

that makes me think that it may be useful to mention that I am using windows groboto v3.0.6 x64

It would be fine with me if groboto's duplicate used ctr+d like most other apps. I would recommend breaking with tradition only when necessary.

    thanks

    ronviers, David,

We certainly want to add user preference where Alt and Control would be swapped. There are indeed many programs where Alt is used for camera control.

As far as using Control-D for duplication - that's fine, we should just add this keyboard shortcut to the existing Edit menu command for duplication. Still, it's not a substitute for Alt-Mouse Drag (or Control-Mouse Drag with the above preference in the future) - it's very convenient to duplicate and move (or rotate) with one mouse move, when creating small translated or rotated arrays of objects.
