    Default Slightly confused about booleans

Hi. I've been trying to mess around with Groboto and I was watching this video.

    http://www.groboto.com/v3/Documentat...Vid/index.html

I right clicked on the boolean shape, but when I went to the Boolean roles menu, I didn't get the right options. All I got was Inside All and Primary. There was one time I did get Outside Body, but it just erased the ellipse shape and not the cylinder.

Here's a video demonstration of what I mean.
    http://screencast.com/t/A19oIqIIq

If I undo the boolean and try to do it over, then I don't get any options except for Inside All and the Primary option.

I really would like to use this software but I just can't figure out what's going wrong. Thanks for your help.

    Dreamcube017,

I didn't see anything wrong in your video (except it switching to the quickline (blue) mode all by itself, which is a bug that we need to fix). You tried Inside Body and Outside Body boolean roles for the ellipsoid, and these are the only two roles an ellipsoid can possibly have, and they worked correctly. Did you want to try different boolean roles for the cylinder?

Yes, I wanted to punch a hole in the ellipse. I was trying to mimic the video I linked from the Groboto site. Do I have to click on the cylinder to do that?

    Thanks.

    Dreamcube017,

Yes, you right-click on the cylinder and choose Boolean Role->Outside Body. This will punch a hole through the ellipsoid.

No offense but the Groboto tutorials here are practically useless. I purchased Groboto in early 2012 and I've been messing around with it on and off..but now summer is over I intend to do so more...

But I'm also confused with booleans. It seems the way I use booleans in Hexagon, Vue or Cinema is completely different in Groboto... It's quite confusing. Also I just don't get what the objects "boolean trims" are or when to use them...

Are good tutorials on the web that have more to do with model building and less then camera movement (free vs level), menu navigating and tutorials more on simple model building. Sorry the ones here just don't cut it...also the menu differences between Mac and Windows need to be better explained when doing a tutorial...

    Thanks kindly...

I can't help with tutorials, but the Boolean trims are simply shortcuts. Cyl-inBody, for example, is simply a cylinder that's already had its Boolean role set to In Body. Just drag it on to an existing Boolean group and it will trim away any of your object that doesn't fit within the cylinder's body. One of the nice features they add above just adding the primitive yourself is that you can set their scale and orientation based on the object you drag them on to.
