Hello Volker,
This is a know issue with exporting an image of any Mesh Preview.
It should only occur when the exported image is too large for you Macs Video Card to handle (a complex issue involving VRAM, card settings, and other factors).
A few questions...
Did you see an alert regarding image sizes the first time you tried saving the image?
What size (pixels) were you using?
How much VRAM to you have?
See the GroBoto's Preferences Panel (Rendering Tab) for some tips and info.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
Hi Darrel,
I did not get an alert. The workspace's background colour switched to black and back to violet. The output was solely black.
The image size was 1280x1024 and uses 5.3MB diskspace. A normal Tiff of the scene is less than 800KB.
I am not sure about the amount of VRAM available to Groboto. I am using a MacBook Pro with an Intel i5 with integrated graphics (288MB) and an additional graphics card (256MB).
It is evident that I have not read all of the golden tips inside the preferences panel ,-)
Have fun
Volker
Hello Volker,
I just checked, and that size (1280 X 1024) was not large enough to trigger GroBoto's Alert. I was not expecting any problems with images of that size (actually it's pretty close to the size that would trigger the alert).
As the Prefs panel mentions, GroBoto doubles the size in during rendering -- so it was actually attempting 2560 x 2048. It is very likely that switching off that double-size option will allow you to render Mesh Previews at 1280 X 1024.
I think we can optimize this feature to make better use of VRAM and allow larger images.... something we will be looking into.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
Do not hurry with this one ,-) It is not that important![]()
Thanks Volker,
Yes, I'd agree that optimizing for larger Mesh Preview image output is a low priority (in fact rendering Mesh Previews to file is really just a connivence so that we can better show our meshes to the world).
However I will do something simple -- like a one-time display of that alert so that at least people know what to expect and look out for.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
