Post Just kind of clunking around.

I am use to doing 3D mechanical design but 3d art work is a totally new thing for me. I'm newbie to Groboto so I'm still getting used to the interface. I thought I would start posting things on a regular basis to it keeps me motivated to learn and grow.

    Here's a start:

    Hey bjbsquared,

Nice start -- clean simple and effective. My own background leans towards the technical & scientific -- art has always been about the realization of ideas as much or more than nice image-making.

I'm sure you'll have a great time... also may feel quite at home when we reveal solid-boolean modeling into the Betas (pretty soon).

    Best Wishes,
    Darrel

Good job bjbsquared and cute Mo'o!

I just got Groboto recently and reading through the manual. Cant wait to actually make something that is recognizable or get the parts to stick together properly.

Please take a look at the v3 Betas... that's where you'll find all of the nifty snapping/aligning features.

These Videos will give you an idea.

Although the videos still show some features that are only implemented in the Mac Beta at this time, two of them are very relevant to the latest Windows additions:
    Freestyle Character Modeling
    New Modeling Tools-9a

The background image is just a bump map applied to a box that I flattened out. It comes with the software. I don't know what the name of it is. I have removed it to help speed things up.

    Thanks Darrel,

I deal with the technical all day so doing something "organic" is refreshing.

For now, I am finding it a welcome challenge of not having solid-boolean modeling. It is something that I would instantly go to inorder to create shapes. Not having it is making my brain bend in new directions.

    Default Nice one

    Nice model, well done.

personally I can't really get my head around the interface as I am more familiar with Rhino type cad tools.

I love the heath robinson look of some of the models and I look forward to being able to create some soon.

    Thanks TropicalRain!

I wouldn't worry to much about the proper and recognizable at first.

My advise is to dive in and start throwing shapes and bots up on the screen. I think the manual is VERY good but can't convey the hand, eye, brain collaboration needed to create.

I also found it helpful to go step by step with the movies and make my own figures. There was a bunch to take in and I found myself rewinding and playing over and over. I've done it a few times and each time I learn something new.

    Good Luck!
